PerSimiO develops a software product, based on 17 years of academic research, that accurately and automatically performs patient specific strength analysis of bones. This technology is first applied to the femur to assist orthopedic surgeons to determine necessity of prophylactic surgeries in patients with metastatic tumors, the risk of an osteoporotic fracture in elderly population and optimal implants, and propagation of multiple myeloma disease to assist hematologists in better controlling of the disease. Today's clinical practice does not provide any scientific information on bone strength but only "image analysis" which is a very poor surrogate for strength (does not account for the varying material properties and patient specific load). Thus, unnecessary and sub-optimal surgeries are performed, at the same time individuals at high risk of fracture are not properly identified, and medication is poorly subscribed. PerSimiO's proprietary software is based on deep learning methodology, big-data and finite element biomechanical simulation that uses standard clinical CT scans to automatically generate 3D, patient specific bone models and determine the accurate strength state. PerSimiO currently has three prototype applications that are undergoing clinical trials in three Israeli medical centers. To commercialize them, we are developing a fully automated system with the potential to perform thousands of analyses in parallel.
WHY NEGEV?The technology was developed at the Ben-Gurion Unviersity and at our office in Beer-Sheva, and all of our employees (except one) live in the Negev.
